Well I just started playing 3 months ago and have progressed pretty nicely. I can play most of raining blood (no tremolo and only 1/2 speed on Mosh 1) and I'm currently learning bed of razors by Children of Bodom. I sadly made my first beginner mistake when I started. I bought a Behringer amp *gasp*. Anybody have any suggestions for a new amp? The roland microcube looks pretty nice. Are there any tube amps for 200> that get decent distortion?

If you want to be wild and awesome you could try the Graff GM-200 OTL Stereo Tube Amplifier.

Me and two friends went to a Guitar Hero 2 tournament the other night.
Beashy got 4th, I got 3rd, and our friend got 1st. He won an AMAZING $25.

It was at this local bar/billards place. Not many people signed up, maybe about 10, but it was a fun time. They had Rock Band set up so people could play in between the Guitar Hero stuff.

I got my my guitar about 3 weeks ago. Haven't learned anything because I can't get lessons and the CD that shows me everything goes to my computer, which has no sound.

Fuck me.

When you do get lessons, ask them to teach you the theory instead of just teaching songs. It may be boring but you'll actually understand music and you'll be a better musician because of it.

Here do you know what a metronome is? If you don't google it and buy one. Metronome = your new God.

With the metronome play this with a steady beat (play one note for evey click) on a comftorble speed where you play with 100% accuracy. To beocome better you have to go SLOW so you build up your muscle memory.

1---2----3----4

^^^^
Do that on all strings until you get to the 12th fret then go backwords its a great exercises that strengthens your fingers and builds accuracy.

If you want some easy songs to play tell me your favorite genre and I'll find some for you.

I love you both.
It's good to see people recommending a new player to not only use a metronome, but to get into theory.

I had a subscription to Guitar World at one time, but they had too many terrible bands on the cover and I eventually ended my subscription.

You know, in the most recent issue of GH, they did an interview with a metal band hailing from Miami, FL (were I live), called BlackTide, who's frontman is 14 years old, and I believe the rest of the band is around the same age. They're making it pretty big now I hear.

Funny thing, a few years back, I had a band (in Miami, FL) and we played a little community show with a bunch of other bands organized by our local music store. Our name? Blacktide. Which I came up with.

Fucking bastards stole my name, I couldn't fucking believe it when I saw some kid wearing a T-shirt with my band name on it.

Stupid rant.
