An Original Song By Life and Legend
This is a song written by myself (Garheardt) and my friend Dylan (Sgt. Pepper). It's called Sell Me Surreal and although we only have two guitars and a crappy mp3 player, I think it came out decently good. This is just a rough version so be gentle with the huge criticism but don't be afraid to criticize.
Lyrics:
Sell Me Surreal
Let me fly and make me feel
Tell me what this is is real
Show me just what is ideal
Go ahead, sell me surreal
Caught in-between your own dreams
Of life and what it may seem
And as all the world recedes
all you have is all you need
Let me fly and make me feel
Tell me what this is is real
Show me just what is ideal
Go ahead, sell me surreal
Out of place with my own kind
Look ahead because I'm behind
Out of place, walk the line
All it does is waste my time
Make me feel
Sell me surreal
Tell me it's real
Sell me surreal
Show me ideal
Sell me surreal
Go ahead, sell me surreal
-Lewis/Hein
Here is the actual song. Be gentle

Constructive Criticism is very much appreciated.

WOW, it sounds exactly like Berlin era Lou Reed. Oh my god. The vocals are astonishingly similar to Lou Reed's spoken word type of vocals. Very cool.
Listen to "Set the Twilight Reeling" to hear what I am talking about.

Thanks! The vocals were my part in that. What did you think of the song overall? Where could we improve? Obviously recording quality and timing, I'll admit we had terrible timing in that song.

Re: An Original Song By Life and Legend
I'm curious as to if you were influenced by Lou Reed, or if it's sheer coincidence that the vocals (and the music somewhat) sound a lot like his work.
Re: An Original Song By Life and Legend
I've listened to quite abit of Velvet underground and his solo work (I love the song Walk on the Wild side) but I think it's just a coincidence. I really didn't notice that at all til you pointed it out.

And to think, I always thought that you just couldn't sing. I say we acquire a new singer who can sing in the traditional sense while our more meaningful and overall better songs could be sung by you.

Re: An Original Song By Life and Legend
That's funny you mention that because a lot of people say Lou Reed can't sing either. I think his vocals work well for his songs, as well as Sgt. Pepper's vocals work for his songs. Depressing/melancholy songs should become your specialty Sgt. Pepper.
Re: An Original Song By Life and Legend
Way to give me credit for writing both the lyrics and the instrumental.

Boy I'd take that back.
I already had the chorus basically written before we started the song. You just pitched lines when I was stuck. The instrumental was mine. ALL MINE! MUHAHAHAHAHAH!

Ah...a nice in-band fight- you boys are well on your way to being a real band!

That's what the silly little lion is for! I just thought it was because we were super cute.
Boy Alex would be pissed if he saw this. It's all good though, just tune your guitar a bit better and work on your timing.

Re: An Original Song By Life and Legend
I asked Alex's e-permission. Don't worry. Which reminds me, I have to show him the "finished" version.
